Barnstormers Roll to Eight Straight

A pair of multi-run innings were all the Lancaster Barnstormers needed to secure a 7-1 decision over the Road Warriors at Clipper Magazine Stadium Saturday Night. Lancaster’s win is their eighth consecutive and improves their record to 14-5 on the young season. The contest marked the start of a three game set with the Road Warriors, concluding on Sunday afternoon with a double header.

With the win, Lancaster remains atop the Freedom Division, one game ahead of Sugar Land and holding the best record in the Atlantic League.

Starter Joe Gardner (2-1) earned the win for Lancaster allowing just one run on five singles over six innings, while striking out five. The Stormers supported their pitcher early with a three spot in the opening inning thanks to an RBI double for Joey Terdoslavich and a two-run single to right from Trayvon Robinson.

Lancaster was kept quiet by Felix Baez (1-3) went quiet for a few innings until the ‘Stormers pushed four across in the bottom of the sixth. All nine batters came to the plate in the inning as Lancaster picked up a pair of baserunners off Baez and capitalized off ex-big league right-hander Jailen Peguero.  Rico Noel greeted Peguero with a double into the left field corner for a 4-1 lead.  Darian Sandford tacked on another run with a sac fly to left center.  After Tyler Bortnick was hit by a pitch, Blake Gailen and Terdoslavich picked up an RBI apiece with singles.

The Road Warriors lone run came off Gardner in the third as Alfredo Silvero drew a two-out walk, took second on a passed ball and came home on a ground single up the middle by former Cub Osvaldo Martinez.

The Barnstormers’ pen held the opposition to just a pair of hits and no runs over three innings. Kevin Munson, Garett Granitz, and Matt Marksberry all participated in helping limit the production of the Road Warriors.
