EGGLESTON PACES SOMERSET TO WIN

Barnstormers Fall for Third Straight Night

The Somerset Patriots were virtually flawless Friday evening.

On the second straight cold, rainy night at Clipper Magazine Stadium, the visitors played error-free baseball, their pitchers walked only one, and the defending Atlantic League champions were 5-for-8 with runners in scoring position.

Aharon Eggleston went 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBI to lead Somerset to a 6-2 victory over the Lancaster Barnstormers in the second game of a four-game series.

Eggleston followed Yovan Gonzalez’ RBI double to left center with a two-run blast to right field in the top of the third to stake Somerset to a 3-0 lead it never lost.  The Patriots’ DH, who had two doubles the previous night, doubled and scored in the fifth and capped the scoring with a two-out RBI single in the top of the ninth.

The offense was in support of Lancaster County native Darin Gorski (1-0).  The left-hander from Donegal High School was reached for seven hits in five innings.  He did not walk a batter and struck out five.

Lancaster’s two runs came off Gorski in the third.  Jeff Kobernus planted a two-out double down the right field line to trigger the rally.  Caleb Gindl doubled to left center to cut the lead to two, and Josh Bell drew the Barnstormers to within one with a two-base hit down the left field line.

The ‘Stormers managed to get runners into scoring position the next two innings and finished the night with nine hits but could not dent the scoreboard again

Brandon Bixler (0-1) lost in Barnstormers debut.  The former Bridgeport left-hander yielded five hits and three runs in 2 1/3 innings.  He was replaced by Bryan Evans, who came out of Wednesday’s game in the first inning after being hit in the ankle by a line drive, worked the next 3 2/3.

Lancaster sends right-hander Bryan Woodall (1-0) to the hill on Saturday night at 7:00.  He will be opposed by Somerset’s Scott McGregor (1-0).  Fireworks will follow the game.  Fans may tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel beginning at 6:45.

NOTES:  Kobernus has hit safely in nine straight, and Gindl kept his streak alive at eight straight starts…Mike Jacobs walked in the sixth to keep his streak of reaching base alive at nine games…The Barnstormers have gone nine games without an error by a non-pitcher.
