Morgado Signs With Braves

Tuesday, November 10, 2015
By: Holly Love

Lancaster Barnstormers’ Left-hander Bryan Morgado Was Signed By The Atlanta Braves, It Was Announced Today By Manager Butch Hobson.

Morgado, 26, becomes the sixth member of the 2015 club, and the first since the end of the season, to be acquired by a Major League organization.

The Miami, FL native joined the Barnstormers during spring training in 2015 and was signed to a contract for the opening of the season. He posted a 4-6 record and 3.25 ERA in 32 appearances, including 10 starts. The southpaw struck out 71 in 72 innings of work during the season.

Morgado worked exclusively out of the bullpen until making a spot start against the Long Island Ducks on June 29, a game in which he allowed only two hits and one unearned run in five innings. Overall, he went 4-4 with a 2.57 ERA as a starter, winning four consecutive starts, July 26-August 11, during the early stages of Lancaster’s second half playoff push.

He did not pitch after September 2, due to soreness in his left arm.

The left-hander has not made a regular season appearance in a Major League organization since 2012, his third season with the Phillies. Last year was Morgado’s second season in the Atlantic League. He pitched for both Camden and York in 2014, going 1-2 with a 3.53 ERA in 49 appearances. His lone victory came against Lancaster in Camden during a late June extra-inning contest.

“We are happy for Bryan,” said Hobson. “He is a left-hander with really good stuff. Hopefully, he has the opportunity to move on up and get to the big leagues.”

The Lancaster Barnstormers are entering their twelfth season as a member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball.  Home games are played at Clipper Magazine Stadium in downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania.  Please call 717.509.HITS (4487) or visit LancasterBarnstormers.com for more information.

About the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball:
The Atlantic League is the most innovative league in professional baseball, offers the highest level of minor league baseball playing skills, and is a player gateway to Major League Baseball. Its mission is to bring a high level of professional baseball and affordable family entertainment to select communities not presently being served by Major League or Minor League teams. ALPB players are highly experienced professionals, having progressed through professional baseball’s developmental levels (A, AA, AAA). Over 40% of all Atlantic League players have Major League service time. Like MLB, Atlantic League clubs pay their players to win baseball games, not to apprentice as in baseball’s developmental levels. The following teams play in the Atlantic League: Bridgeport Bluefish, Lancaster Barnstormers, Long Island Ducks, Somerset Patriots, Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, Sugar Land Skeeters, and York Revolution.  New Britain, CT will join the league in 2016.
