“Clipper Magazine Stadium is a community center of Lancaster County and beyond. In addition to the Lancaster Barnstormers providing professional baseball to the area, the venue offers the community so many other opportunities to make memories through the many different events hosted at Clipper Magazine Stadium. As the General Manager of this organization, I am proud of the commitment from our owners, employees and supporters of our venue to making Clipper Magazine Stadium the asset it is to our community. We are excited to continue with our commitment to the community to making sure Clipper Magazine Stadium is a great place for everyone to make memories.”
– Mike Reynolds, Lancaster Barnstormers President & General Manager
On May 11, 2005, Lancaster’s Ballpark, Clipper Magazine Stadium, opened its doors for the very first time. With the Barnstormers hosting the Atlantic City Surf, our ballpark provided an outlet for Lancastrians to enjoy America’s favorite pastime.
The Barnstormers inherit a strong baseball tradition in the Red Rose City, dating back to the late 1800’s. That history includes teams like the Maroons, the All-African American Giants (1897) and, of course, a few incarnations of the Red Roses, who lasted through 1961.
Talks of a new baseball team began in 1987, nonetheless, it took 16 long years to bring baseball back to Lancaster. In 2003, the announcement of a new baseball team was finally made, in hopes to develop downtown Lancaster further.
The groundbreaking ceremony occurred April 28th, 2004 and the stadium was finished right in time for opening day on May 11, 2005.
Clipper Magazine Stadium has quite a few features that make it rather unique. Areas like the May-Grant Little Slugger Dugout, Broken Bat Bar & Grille, and Subaru Outdoor Experience provide convenience as well as improving the experience of watching ‘Stormers games overall. Our goal is to utilize these properties in our stadium to give off the feel and comfort of a second home for all Lancastrians.
